Nipah
Virus

From the descriptions of this disease it is probably at least a
250 to 500 gram disease.
All of these acute infectious diseases kill by way of free radicals.
Although I have not seen the symptom of hemorrhage listed for this disease
yet, it is probably capable of destroying ascorbate at the rates that Ebola,
Lassa fever, etc. would. This means that huge doses of intravenous
sodium ascorbate should be used at whatever rate necessary to abort the fever.
With this disease it might take 250 to 500 grams of sodium ascorbate
intravenously per 24 hours in the first few days of the disease. Since
low doses will undoubtedly be of little use, the only use of lower doses would
be to produce a publishable negative paper to prove that vitamin C would be of
no use.

It is interesting that fruit eating bats are among the small number of
animals who do not make ascorbate. However, pigs do make ascorbate and
they are infected with the Nepah virus. In any event ascorbate utilized
soon enough should be able to neutralize the overwhelming number of free
radicals causing the major symptoms of the encephalitis and save these
people's lives.
