 extended release vc
whats your take on prolonged released vc? Was thinking of adding some to my supplement regime at nighttime so I can have it release evenly while I sleep.

 Re: extended release vc
Pauling recommended timed release for before bed in his book.
The the mercury poisoned sister from this case report (http://vitamincfoundation.org/pdfs/mercurycase.pdf) uses a particular bland, and knowing how much pain she is in without a good source of vitamin C, I think it is safe to recommend this brand:
Solaray Vitamin C (1000 mg) Two-Stage, Timed Release Fast Acting First Stage, TImed-release second stage
I believe I got mine from Amazon.

 Re: extended release vc
This graph comparing serum levels from a single 5 gram regular vs. lip C from this other thread indicates that with 5 g regular vit C significantly higher levels are reached between 1 to 4 hrs, thereafter declining not that much for usual sleeping hours. Extended release vit C tablets are usually only 1g, where I wouldn't want to take more than 1, because of the usual additives for such tablets. But I wondered if taking plain ascorbic acid with some fibers, like psylium, guar or propolmanan, could not also slow digestion and absorption of much higher doses? Or would the fibers even inhibit absorption of vit C?

 Re: extended release vc
If we can identify the "faulty" glucose meters that respond to vitamin C, and use perhaps in conjunction with accurate glucose monitors, for a baseline, we can run our own "studies" similar to the above chart. We could thus easily measure blood levels of vitamin C over time based on the dosage and type, e.g. lyposomal.
I'd be willing to run such tests on myself, say every 15 minutes (ouch!) if someone thinks they know of a "faulty" glucose monitor I could purchase.

 Re: extended release vc
I tried 4 including 1 from my doc, all showed higher glucose levels in relation to HBA1c.
But that wouldn't tell anything, unless you theoretically could keep everything constant: from food intake, continual digestion, gluconeogenesis, activity level etc.. Once I fasted for one week, the thing which kept fluctuating were blood glucose readings completely unrelated with my vitamin C intake.
But testing vit C serum levels wouldn't be that expensive, if done a few times only.
However, maybe someone already knows if fibers would help slow (or inhibit) absorption of vitamin C?

I take lypo c, ascorbic acid powder, and as of May 24th I have added prolonged release vc pills. I take 5 1000mg vc xr pills around lunch and 5-10 before I sleep. I am worried about all the fillers so maybe I will just take 5 at bed time. Is 5 still to much Owen due to fillers?

Usually corn starch and such, so if you are not having an allergic reaction, probably not a big deal in 10 pills. Check the label. Some brands include a lot more junk in their pills! (On Pauling's therapy, people who take pills might require 10-20 (10,000 mg vitamin C) 5-10 (5000 mg lysine) or something like 15-30 pills daily, just for C and lysine! So fillers start becoming a bigger issue.)

 Re: extended release vc
Owen have you ever heard of "bed pan bullets"? I am worried about that with slow released products because if a slow release product isn't manufactured correctly, it may not dissolve completely or at all in the body from what I understand.

 Re: extended release vc
Usually calcium or minerals, correct? Old memory - someone invented a test that we discussed years ago. Perhaps worth a google. Something like dropping a pill into vinegar, and seeing whether it dissolves, or how long it takes, etc. Anyway, one person I know in great pain without vitamin C uses the timed release Solaray successfully. (Again, if memory servers, she investigated various timed release products and judged them based on her pain.)
