 VC and benzoate
I've got a question about a cure against a streptococcen infection. The child is a week old and has been given broxil. But.. broxil contains sodiumbenzoate ánd ascorbic acid. There has been some rumour, especially in the US.., about the chemical reaktion between these two and delivering Benzene as result. The rumour was about the levels of Benzene in beverages...
Is there any knowledge about this item? Allthough i'm into chemistry I've never heard of such thing before and don't see how this 'transition' takes place.. I found a Dutch link regarding benzene and ascorbic acid but no further info.
Anyone??

 Re: VC and benzoate
This raises an "old" memory, and I believe we posted a response from Dr. Hickey, perhaps several years ago. I do not remember it being a real issue.
